Wiser...

Hey, you.

Yes. You! The man in the mirror.

What do you strive for? What does mockery of opinion achieve in social media?

Noise.

So, elevate the discourse. Make your audience think.

Recognize that others who don't believe as you do could be as 'wise', and even more so than you.

Men who believe themselves 'wise' and 'experienced' tend to discount ideas they consider idiotic.

Unsurprisingly, these men despise the very same treatment by others who deem them idiots.

You, the man in the mirror, blink and look again.

Dodge the grasp of hypocrisy once more.

Best Protection for Portable Device Virii

There are a couple of ways to protect your portable device — may it be a USB stick, an external disk drive, an SD card, the list goes on — but the best (AND simplest!) method I've been using for some years now is this:
  1. Create a folder (NOTE: Folder) on the root directory of your device
  2. Rename it to autorun.inf
  3. Right-click the file -> Click Properties -> Set to Read-only and Hidden
Now you're good to go.

Well, actually you can add a bit more protection to that new folder by adding the "system file" flag to it. Here's how:
  1. Open a command shell
  2. Run "attrib +s +r +h
  • Example: attrib +s +r +h d:\autorun.inf
  • Example: attrib +s +r +h f:\autorun.inf
Can't be too safe these days. :D

JustText... a chrome extension

For chrome users out there, here's a useful extension which transforms a website into "plain text" with a simple click.

The basic idea is to hide images, videos, flash and the like; and remove colorful sweetness from any webpage you are viewing.

Check it out from the chrome webstore!

Room for Uncertainty...

You are not always right, 100% of the time. Just because you think it is doesn't mean it is so.

It is a truth.

Oh so bright people don't shine too much and be blinded off of truths around you.

Be wise.

Challenge what you believe every time, even when it means crushing your own bloated head.

You can't always be right.

No one is.

So at least give yourself this:

Some room to consider that you could be wrong, sometimes.

Pride...

Reflect on this:

"From all sins, pride is the one that is the root of them all…"

Thank you Obama...

No this isn't about his recent mind-blowing oration, nor Apples nor the economy.

It was a lazy and slow afternoon and I was reading comments on a post. If I remember it right, it was an argument on which bridge is the longest in the world.

Then one comment struck me:

"Thank you Obama!"

First, I was thinking, "What the eff..."

A few seconds then, The Obama's image sunk in.

I smiled.

It's not funny, not even connected, but somehow it humored me.

"Thank you" is indeed a powerful phrase, use it often; mix with Obama for maximum effect.

P.S. Try "Reply-all" to a heated thread discussion and see how it turns out. :D

Don't Tell...

But when someone asks, you must not lie.

This usually applies for petty stuff.

However, when it comes to a magnitude where something you would reveal destroys lives if not entire nations (and its people with it), you might need to re-assess your intentions.

I believe in the truth. I believe in freedom of expression. I also believe in cruel intentions (no pun intended).

You can lie all you want and shout to the world that you were just helping, just exposing evil.

But you know yourself better than anyone. You know what drives your actions.

You are.

If your conscience is truthfully calm, then you can rest your case.

You did the right thing.
